Are dentists satisfied with their compensation?

Dentist owners were more satisfied with their compensation than associate dentists, according to Dentalpost’s 2024 Dental Salary Survey.

Dentalpost surveyed nearly 3,500 dental professionals to create this year’s report. The survey was conducted from July to September 2023. 

The average full-time income of general dentistry practice owners in 2023 was $300,273, according to the report. The average full-time income of general dentistry associates was $217,867.00.

Dentalpost noted that dissatisfaction among associate dentists rose despite an increase in average income, with 29.83% of associates being dissatisfied with their income in 2023, compared to 4.8% in 2022.

Here is how satisfied or dissatisfied dentist owners and associates were with their compensation in 2023: 

Dentist owners

Very satisfied: 18.52%

Satisfied: 39.51% 

Neutral: 17.7% 

Dissatisfied: 15.64%

Very dissatisfied: 8.64%

Associate dentists

Very satisfied: 8.77%

Satisfied: 36.84% 

Neutral: 24.56% 

Dissatisfied: 22.81% 

Very dissatisfied: 7.02%
