Maryland dentist sentenced to 45 years in prison for death of girlfriend, former employee

A Maryland oral surgeon was recently sentenced to 45 years in prison for the death of his girlfriend, Fox 5 DC reported Jan. 3.

James Ryan, DDS, supplied controlled substances from his office to his girlfriend, Sarah Harris, who was also a past patient and employee of Dr. Ryan’s office. Ms. Harris was found dead in her and Ryan’s home in January 2022. A medical examiner determined her cause of death was intoxication of ketamine, propofol and diazepam. 

Dr. Ryan, 50, was found guilty of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in August. He was also found guilty of possession with intent to distribute midazolam as well as distribution of ketamine and diazepam, according to the report.
