How a cyberattack on a major healthcare tech company is impacting dentists

Change Healthcare, a large healthcare technology company, suffered a cyberattack Feb. 21, which is having a trickle-down effect on dental organizations.

Some dentists have been prevented from sending electronic claims and attachments to insurance companies, according to a Feb. 27 news release from the American Dental Association. 

Until services are back to normal, the ADA is recommending that dentists and dental practices opt for alternative methods, such as using payer portals of provider services lines to verify eligibility and benefits, asking vendors for other clearinghouse options, carefully tracking claims and using paper claim forms.
