How dental roles are changing in 3 states

Leaders in several states are weighing or have approved changes to how dentistry is practiced, including the authorization of new practitioners.

Here are three updates Becker’s has covered since Jan. 31: 

1. More than 140 organizations and individuals are lobbying the Florida Legislature to pass two bills that would authorize dental therapists in the state.

2. Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers signed a bill that allows dental therapists to provide care in the state.

3. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem signed a bill that expands the ability to practice as a dental hygienist under the supervision of a dentist.
