Insurance and employee benefits company MetLife has launched a value-based dental care program.

SpotLite on Oral Health is a new preferred dentist program that rewards providers for quality of outcomes instead of quantity of care delivered, according to a March 12 news release. Employees can use the insurer’s search engine tool to connect with a designated dental provider, who are verified through a proprietary evaluation process.

The initiative represents MetLife’s entry into value-based healthcare, the company said. Chief Dental Officer Peter Fuentes, DMD, added that MetLife is one of the first carriers to offer value-based dentistry.
