How dentists’ experience level impacts DSO affiliation rates

Dentists with less experience are more likely to be affiliated with a DSO, according to data from the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.

Regardless of experience, 14%, or about one in seven dentists, are affiliated with a DSO in the U.S., according to the July 2024 report. 

About one in four dentists that are 10 years or less out of dental school are affiliated with a DSO, which is nearly double the U.S. average

Here is the percentage of dentists that are affiliated with a DSO based on the number of years out of dental school they are:

Up to 10 years out of dental school: 24%

11 to 25 years out of dental school: 12%

More than 25 years out of dental school: 8%
