Oral health information site Dentaly ranked all 50 states and Washington, D.C., on dental health by using 12 different metrics in June. 

CareCredit compiled a list of the average cost of a dental exam in every state, which includes teeth cleaning, checking for cavities and inspecting gums for signs of gum disease.

Here is the average cost of a dental exam in the 10 worst states for dental health:

1. Arkansas: $205

2. Louisiana: $221

3. West Virginia: $191

4. Mississippi: $194

5. Alabama: $223

6. Kentucky: $168

7. Oklahoma: $227

8. Texas: $227

9. Montana: $236

10. Tennessee: $184
