Indiana dental practice suffers ransomware attack

South Bend, Ind.-based Jefferson Dental Center experienced a data breach affecting 12,340 individuals.

The practice discovered it experienced a ransomware attack Nov. 15 after an unauthorized user accessed its computer network systems. 

Sensitive information may have been obtained during the incident, according to a notice posted on the practice’s website. This information may include patient files and other records such as demographic information, clinical and treatment information and insurance information.  

The incident was submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights Breach Portal Nov. 27.
