Medgaus Dental Group in Monroeville, Pa., has closed after the unexpected death of its owner, Carl Medgaus, DMD.
Dr. Medgaus died Jan. 15. The cause of death is unknown, but a post on his practice’s website says the passing was unexpected and “without prior warning.”
The practice just recently posted on its website that it would be closing its doors, leading patients to seek reimbursements for services that were paid for but not yet completed, KDKA News reported March 31.
KDKA said it reached out to the practice in January to ask about reimbursements and was told that the dentist’s estate is responsible for addressing financial matters.
The practice’s online statement instructs patients to email the office about receiving their teeth or records. It also said it would provide more updates once they become available.
“We understand that the passage of time may raise concerns. However, the legal and regulatory processes required after a provider’s passing — such as obtaining the death certificate and fulfilling state and federal requirements — must be completed before we can move forward,” the practice said. “These necessary steps are beyond our control, but please be assured that we are working tirelessly within these legal constraints.”
