Dentists earn an average of $184,490 in Illinois, which was recently ranked as the best state for dental health in the U.S.

WalletHub recently compared all 50 states and Washington, D.C., across two main categories: dental habits and health and oral health. 

Here is the average annual salary and number of dentists in the top five states for dental health, using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

Illinois

Average annual salary: $184,490

Number of dentists: 4,820 

Minnesota

Average annual salary: $224,700

Number of dentists: 2,500

Wisconsin

Average annual salary: $209,830

Number of dentists: 2,160

Michigan

Average annual salary: $202,390

Number of dentists: 3,920

Connecticut

Average annual salary: $214,070

Number of dentists: 1,840
