Texas oral surgery practice suffers data breach affecting 11,000 individuals

West Texas Oral Facial Surgery in Lubbock was hit with a data breach affecting more than 11,000 individuals.

The practice said it experienced a network disruption May 29. An investigation determined that an unauthorized third party may have acquired certain files containing patient information. 

The types of information that may have been acquired include names, imaging files and reasons for seeking treatment. The practice confirmed that Social Security numbers and financial information were not affected. 

The practice submitted that incident to the HHS Department’s Office for Civil Rights Breach Portal Aug. 2. The portal states that the breach affected 11,151 individuals.
