Philadelphia-based Temple University received a $2 million federal grant to help build its new rural education center, the Republican Herald reported Nov. 25.
The university first announced its plans to open rural education centers in June to address workforce shortages in rural areas of Pennsylvania. The school is using the centers to test a new model that involves students living and studying in rural communities for two years.
The school plans to open the first center at a former Rite Aid building in Tamaqua, Pa., in September 2026.
The federal grant was included in agriculture appropriations legislation signed into law earlier this month.
