Cheney, Wash.-based Eastern Washington University is planning a master’s in dental therapy program, according to a Dec. 18 report from the Spokane Journal of Business.
The Washington State Legislature has pledged $10.5 million to the school, which will be used to renovate and relocate its dental clinic and teaching facilities.
The proposed three-year program will have cohorts of 12 students. The university will hire a program director and two instructors.
There are currently three dental therapy programs in the U.S. that are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
If the program is accredited, the school plans to launch its first cohort of students in fall 2028, the report said.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
