Former South Dakota dentist to pay $12M for selling fraudulent laser devices: 5 takeaways

Former Rapid City, S.D.-based dentist Larry Lytle was ordered to pay $12 million forhealthcare fraud, according to KDLT.

1. Mr. Lytle was convicted of misleading more than 3,000 consumers to purchase phony laser devices. The former dentist claimed the lasers treated hundreds of medical conditions.

2. Currently, Mr. Lytle is serving a 12-year prison sentence for the medical fraud.

3. Between 2005 and 2015, Mr. Lytle admitted to selling thousands of the QLasers for around $4,000 each.

4. Mr. Lytle’s two co-conspirators, Ronald Weir and Irina Kossovskaia, were ordered to pay nearly $1 million in restitution. Mr. Weir was ordered to pay $802,000, and Ms. Kossovskaia was ordered to pay $92,000.

5. Mr. Weir was also sentenced to two years in prison while Ms. Kossovskaia was sentenced to a year and three months.
