Here are five things to know:

1. The lawsuit claimed nine ImmediaDent offices in Indiana fraudulently billed Medicaid for services which were never performed or deemed unnecessary.

2. A whistleblower brought the allegations to the attorney general’s office attention, accusing the dental group and dental service organization of false billing, excessive and unnecessary treatments and pressure by management to put profit over care.

3. Samson Dental and ImmediaDent allegedly filed the false claims between Jan 1, 2009 and Sept. 30, 2013.

4. Samson Dental, which provides administrative services to ImmediaDent, is also accused of violating Indiana’s corporate practice of dentistry law by exerting obtrusive influences over dentists and staff.

5. Of the $5.1 million settlement, $1.78 million went to Indiana and the other $3.4 million was collected by the U.S. government.
