A dental clinic in Traverse City, Mich., has closed due to financial hardship, according to a Jan. 21 report from ABC affiliate Up North Live.
United We Smile has provided more than $3.7 million in free dental care to veterans and other individuals over the past two years.
The clinic’s proceeds and donations were used to cover expenses for United Way, its fiduciary, according to Jennifer Kerns, founder of United We Smile.
The clinic made attempts to cut costs by reducing staff pay and stopping cleaning services.
Grand Traverse County Commissioner TJ Andrews proposed finding a way to continue the services that were provided by United We Smile, the report said.
