The Arizona Senate recently passed a bill that would allow the state to study the impact of comprehensive dental benefits for adult Medicaid recipients.
Arizona only offers limited benefits for adults under Medicaid, including emergency care and extractions. Coverage is also capped at 1,000 per year.
Senate Bill 1372 would create a committee to examine the feasibility, cost, long-term fiscal impact and other outcomes associated with covering comprehensive dental benefits. The committee would include several members, including legislators, dental professionals, an economist and other representatives.
The committee would be required to present their findings and recommendations to the state by April 30, 2027.
The bill currently sits with the state House of Representatives for consideration.
