The American Dental Association’s Code Maintenance Committee has approved 67 changes to the Current Dental Terminology codes for 2027.
The updates include 28 additions, 33 revisions and six editorial updates, according to an April 14 news release.
Five notes:
1. Dentists now have several new codes, including for the removal of a screw-retained indirect restoration on implants, placement of healing caps and the repairing or removing of fixed splints, among others.
2. The committee approved several revisions, including to a code for the placement of a direct resin-based composite crown and to the code for the administration of neuromodulators.
3. New codes were also added for orofacial pain management, including for injection blocks for the occipital nerve and trigger-point muscle injections.
4. CDT 2027 will be available in the fall and go into effect Jan. 1.
5. Requests for CDT 2028 are due by Nov. 1.
