Oral and maxillofacial surgeon is the highest-paying role in dentistry, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

BLS updated its employment and salary data to reflect 2024 information May 15.

Here are seven dental roles ranked by their average annual salaries:

1. Oral and maxillofacial surgeon: $346,490

2. Prosthodontist: $268,630

3. Orthodontist: $259,400

4. Dentist, all other specialties: $247,930

5. General dentist: $191,350

6. Dental hygienist: $98,990

7. Dental assistant: $50,200
