The Health Department of Northwest Michigan has assumed direct operational control of a nine-clinic network after an audit uncovered operational inefficiencies.
The department said its board reviewed an evaluation of Dental Clinics North’s operations during a June meeting, during which it identified inefficiencies leading to financial challenges for the clinic network. The board then voted to terminate its contract with the clinic’s nonprofit for staffing and management services.
HDNW, which already owned all nine clinic locations along with their buildings, equipment and supplies, will now also assume responsibility for payroll, human resources and executive leadership, according to a news release.
The transition aims to improve operational efficiency, reduce patient wait times and support staff recruitment and retention, the health department said. None of the nine clinic locations will close.
