The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Action for Dental Health Act, reauthorizing the program, according to a July 20 news release from one of the bill’s sponsors.
Here are five things to know:
- H.R. 2001 provides support and resources to organizations that provide oral health services to underserved communities, including seniors, children and families.
- The legislation expands access to preventive dental services, reducing the number of emergency visits related to dental care.
- The bill reauthorizes grants to states for developing the dental workforce and increasing access to oral health services in designated Dental Health Professional Shortage areas through fiscal year 2030.
- The program is administered by the Bureau of Health Workforce within the Health Resources and Services Administration.
- The Action for Dental Health Act was sponsored by Reps. Robin Kelly and Mike Simpson, DMD.
