About 30% of dentists do not currently use AI and never plan to, according to a report from the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.
The ADA’s “The State of the U.S. Dental Economy” collected responses from more than 500 dentists in private practice on their AI usage.
Here are five things to know:
- More than 43% of dentists are already using AI for at least one task at their practice. About one-quarter of dentists are not using AI currently but have plans to use it in the future.
- Imaging and diagnostics are the most common use case of AI for dentists, with 22.8% already using AI and another 25.4% of dentists planning to use it for imaging and diagnostics.
- More than 10% of dentists are using AI for insurance verification, practice analytics and business intelligence, explaining clinical findings to patients, receptionist tools and front desk check-in and social media.
- For dentists who don’t use AI yet but are planning to, the most common plans for implementation are front desk check-in tools, appointment scheduling and practice analytics.
- More than 20% of dentists are optimistic about the potential of AI in dentistry, while nearly 14% of dentists are generally opposed to dental AI.
