The Academy of General Dentistry is supporting two federal bills that would expand access to dental care.
The Medicaid Dental Benefit Act of 2026 would make dental and oral health services a mandatory component of Medicaid coverage for adults in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., according to an Aug. 4 news release from the organization.
The Ensuring Kids Have Access to Medically Necessary Dental Care Act would strengthen dental coverage through the Children’s Health Insurance Program by prohibiting annual and lifetime dollar limits on dental benefits and requiring dental-only wraparound coverage for certain children.
Both pieces of legislation protect access to preventive and comprehensive dental services, the release said.
The Academy of General Dentistry is joined by other dental organizations in supporting the legislation, including the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
