President Donald Trump recently signed a resolution that extends federal agency funding at fiscal year 2026 levels through Dec. 11, including several programs that support oral health, dental research and the dental workforce.
The Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027, preserves funding for key federal dental programs, including $21 million for the CDC oral health program, $43 million for the Health Resources and Services Administration’s oral health workforce programs, $525 million for the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, $12 million for the Department of Defense military dental research and $260 million for the Indian Health Service dental program.
Funding was also continued for the HRSA Ryan White dental program, HRSA medical-dental integration efforts and Veteran Affairs dental programs, the American Dental Association reported Sept. 4.
The resolution also delays implementation of a proposed Office of Management and Budget rule that would give political appointees greater control over federal grantmaking decisions.
The House passed the resolution Sept. 1 by a 370-48 vote following the Senate’s 90-6 passage in August. Congress must pass full-year appropriations legislation or another continuing resolution by Dec. 11 to prevent a funding lapse.
