The CDC updated its “Infection Control in Healthcare Personnel” guidance, adding a new section that consolidates how healthcare workers should be managed when they’re exposed to or sick with respiratory viruses.
While the updated guidelines do not directly apply to dentistry, there are still takeaways for dentists and dental employers, according to a Sept. 25 news release from the American Dental Association.
The CDC’s new viral respiratory infections section streamlines the previous pathogen-specific approach into one set of recommendations and supersedes past return-to-work recommendations for SARS-CoV-2 and seasonal influenza.
The ADA is encouraging practice owners to treat the update as a cue to revisit their own policies. Recommended steps include refreshing employee health policies, auditing staff vaccination and immunity records and setting up protocols for exposure response and illness reporting, the release said.
