Seaport Dental Center in Belfast, Maine, temporarily closed its doors Oct. 2 due to hiring challenges, NBC affiliate News Center Maine reported.
Bangor, Maine-based Penobscot Community Health Care announced the closure on its Facebook page, adding that the clinic would begin providing limited dental services two Fridays per month later this year once provider scheduling is finalized.
A PCHC spokesperson confirmed to News Center Maine that the closure is “driven by hiring challenges.” The limited schedule is expected to continue through spring 2027 as the organization continues recruitment efforts.
The closure comes less than five months after the clinic was opened to expand access to care.
PCHC is also at risk of bankruptcy amid various financial challenges, News Center Maine reported. PCHC President and CEO Lori Dwyer said in August that the organization needed $3 million in the next two months to prevent cuts to services and staff.
