Hoffman Stone, a dental practice in Springfield, Mo., has closed abruptly, leaving patients and employees without answers, according to an Oct. 12 report from KY3.

Patients said that they were not informed ahead of time that the practice would be closing. At least two employees of the practice said that they have not received their final paycheck.

Brian Hoffman, DMD, provided the following statement to KY3 in regard to the closure: “I cannot comment on my practice or the circumstances surrounding its closure. But, what I will comment on is, we have just completed the necessary arrangements to have all patient records properly transferred to a very reputable dentist, who has agreed to ensure proper continuity of care. This new office is now in legal possession of all patient data and case work. The patients will be officially contacted between Monday and Wednesday of this week. I truly apologize to all my patients for this inconvenience, but you are in great hands!”

When asked about refunds for patients who had already paid, Dr. Hoffman said in a separate exchange with the news outlet: “That will be decided in bankruptcy.” No bankruptcy filing has been found in court records, the report said.
