The University of Rochester (N.Y.) Eastman Institute for Oral Health has received a $5.1 million federal grant to train 40 early-career dental and dental hygiene faculty from institutions nationwide.

The Health Resources and Services Administration award funds Project ELEVATE, a two-year program for two cohorts of 20 faculty members, according to an Oct. 26 announcement. Participants will receive graduate-level coursework, individualized mentorship, virtual instruction and in-person training, leading to an Advanced Certificate in Health Professions Education. The curriculum covers teaching methods, interprofessional collaboration, academic leadership, research, technology and strategies to improve oral health in underserved communities.

The grant builds on the institute’s Primary Care Dental Faculty Development Center, established in 2021 through a five-year, $3.5 million HRSA award.
