SmileDirectClub claims there is no factual basis to a class-action lawsuit filed in Nashville, Tenn., concerning the company’s safety and legitimacy. The organization said they will “vigorously defend our business model against any entity working to limit consumer choice,” and that the allegations are made in efforts to thwart competition.
The U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission both recently filed joint amicus briefs in support of SmileDirectClub, the company claims.
The release stated that SmileDirectClub has 510,000 certifications for clear aligners, complying with FDA regulations. They said major and well-respected health insurers have recognized their company as a “safe, affordable alternative to traditional offerings, but without unnecessary radiological exposure, unsightly metal braces or over-treatment.”
The organization also said they do not publicly share contact information for their affiliated dentists to protect the network of more than 240 state-licensed dentists and orthodontists against bullying and litigation.
