2 dental practices alert 2,600 patients of data breaches

Two dental organizations in Illinois and Georgia have reported data breaches to HHS’ Office for Civil Rights.

Naperville, Ill.-based Wheatland Dental Care reported that 955 patients may have been affected in a hacking/IT incident. The dental group notified OCR Oct. 24.

Atlanta-based Smile Center Team alerted OCR officials Oct. 17 of a data breach. The dental company reported that 1,655 patients may have been affected with an unauthorized third party gained access to its email server.
