Jury finds Virginia oral surgeon negligent in botched wisdom teeth surgery

A jury awarded a patient of Corey Burgoyne, DMD, $625,000 for a botched wisdom tooth procedure that left the patient with nerve damage, according to local ABC affiliate WHSV.

Dr. Burgoyne, who practices at Blue Ridge Oral Surgery, sliced a 2-year-old patient’s lingual nerve in half while extracting her wisdom teeth. The patient’s family claims she lost sensory nerve function.

The lawsuit was against Dr. Burgoyne and Blue Ridge Oral Surgery. The Fisherville, Va.-based surgery center is seeking a new trial.
