California dental employee arrested, allegedly prescribed herself muscle relaxants

An employee at a California dental office was arrested Dec. 31 after allegedly prescribing herself a muscle relaxant 11 separate times, CW affiliate KTLA 5 reports.

After receiving a report of fraudulent prescription activity at a Newbury Park dental practice, police conducted an investigation ending in the arrest of Kristina Vargas. The employee allegedly used a dentist’s information to obtain the muscle relaxant carisoprodol for herself since 2018.

Ms. Vargas was arrested for allegedly obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, forgery and commercial burglary. She is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 17.
