3 notes on Walmart’s dental push

Since making greater strides to enter the healthcare space as a whole a few years ago, Walmart has made an effort to pursue dentistry.

Here are three notes on Walmart’s dental push:

1. In January, Walmart Health announced that a second clinic will offer dental services. The new location is in Calhoun, Ga. Earlier in 2019, Walmart opened its first stand alone clinic in Dallas, Ga., which provided dental care.

2. Walmart teamed up with SmileDirectClub in January. As part of the deal, SmileDirectClub will roll out a suite or products exclusively in Walmart stores and on the retailer’s website. The collection of products will be available for purchase in more than 3,800 U.S. Walmart locations.

3. With the opening of its new clinics, Walmart Health also selected Roshan Parikh, DDS, to serve as the retail giant’s head of dentistry. As the head of dentistry, Dr. Parikh will refine Walmart Health’s long-term strategy to grow a focus in dentistry while working closely with operations teams to map out where dentistry services are most needed.
