Mississippi halts elective surgeries

The Mississippi State Department of Health has ordered a temporary ban on nonemergency medical procedures in response to the state’s personal protective equipment shortages and growing number of COVID-19 cases.

Under the order, Mississippi dentists must delay all routine or nonemergency care.

The order took effect July 12 and will last until at least July 20. It was issued during a weekend in which the state experienced 797 new COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths in just a single day.
