Three notes:
- The fact sheet advises providers to regularly review patients’ eligibility information to ensure proper billing for Medicare-covered supplies and services.
- Patients may be eligible for Medicare if they are 65 or older, under age 65 with certain disabilities, or of any age and have end-stage renal disease.
- Providers can check patient eligibility through a Medicare Administrative Contractor online provider portal or interactive voice response system, the HIPAA Eligibility Transaction System, or billing agencies, clearinghouses or software vendors.
