Illinois dental school names chief diversity officer

Edwardsville-based Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine named Cornell Thomas, DDS, as chief diversity officer and director of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, according to a Jan. 12 press release.

In his role, Dr. Thomas will remain assistant dean for admissions and will focus on diversity and equity issues, the report said. He’s worked to help “lower barriers, not lower standards,” and worked to advance the dental school since beginning his tenure in 1979.
