Dentistry not heavily affected by new COVID-19 workplace regulations

Most dental offices will not be affected by new COVID-19 regulations set forth by the Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, according to a June 14 press release from the American Dental Association.

The new OSHA workplace emergency temporary standard requires healthcare settings to conduct hazard assessments and create a written plan to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. It also requires employers to provide personal protective equipment to some employees and establishes social distancing rules, among other regulations.

Dental offices that would most likely be affected by the standard include hospital-based oral surgery practices or offices that provide care for COVID-19 patients.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place November 12–14 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
