How many practices have in-office dental plans? 7 stats to know

Of all dental specialties, general dentists are most likely to provide an in-office dental plan, according to the American Dental Association’s latest COVID-19 economic impact survey.

In a survey conducted the week of June 14, owner dentists were asked, “Does your practice have an in-office dental plan?”

Below is the percentage of respondents, per specialty, that said “yes”:

General practice: 26.4 percent
Prosthodontist: 17.6 percent
Pediatric dentist: 12.3 percent
Endodontist: 7.1 percent
Periodontist: 5.4 percent
Dental surgical specialist: 2.7 percent
Orthodontist: Zero percent

When asked who is administering the plan, 72 percent of all dentist owners said “my practice,” while 28 percent said a contracted company.
