Maine legislators had previously proposed a budget agreement to include preventive dental care funding for adults over 21 under MaineCare, the state’s Medicaid program. The passage of the budget marks the first time MaineCare has provided comprehensive dental benefits, previously only covering emergency dental services.

Previously, Maine was one of 10 states that only offered emergency dental coverage.
