Dental school researcher receives $656K grant

Suchitra Nelson, PhD, has been awarded a grant of $656,000 by the National Institutes of Health to research oral health disparities between older adults, Mirage News reported July 11.

The grant will fund a two-year pilot project to identify disparities and test interventions by working with primary care physicians to help educate patients on oral health issues. If successful, the project will become a large-scale clinical trial with an expected budget of more than $6 million.

Dr. Nelson is a professor and assistant dean for clinical and translational research at the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland.
