The coalition is led by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, and American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, according to a Sept. 21 news release.
In comments filed Sept. 13, the coalition supported a proposal to increase access to dental surgeries in hospital operating rooms, but asked CMS to ensure ASCs are included in the rule by adding a CDT code on the ASC Covered Procedures List.
The group said it is important to increase access to ASCs for dental patients now because CMS’ 2023 proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule includes additional coverage for dental care under Medicare that is medically necessary before a procedure.
