The plan provides dental practitioners with steps to prescribe opioids judiciously and support patients. It was created in collaboration with the North Carolina Dental Society, dental specialty providers, state and local partners, and public health representatives.

The action plan identifies six strategies, including reducing oversupply of prescription opioids, increasing community awareness and expanding treatment access.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place November 12–14 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
