7 dental school updates to know

Here are seven updates on dental schools in the U.S. that have taken place in the last month:

1. The Washington Senate passed a bill to ease licensure requirements for faculty joining dental schools from out of state.

2. The University of Pikeville (Ky.) purchased a building from Appalachian Newspapers to house its upcoming dental school.

3. Pacific Dental Services and the Workman School of Dental Medicine at High Point (N.C.) University partnered to implement the Epic electronic health record system at the university. 

4. St. Louis-based Affinia Healthcare and A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Mo., are evaluating security measures at its dental center in response to safety concerns from students and employees.

5. UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry partnered with dental equipment and supply manufacturer Straumann Group to create a digital treatment center.

6. Angelo Mariotti, DDS, PhD, was named dean of the Louisiana State University Health New Orleans School of Dentistry.

7. Rootstown-based Northeast Ohio Medical University received $2 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for its upcoming dental school.
