Alaska was ranked as the best state for dentists to live and work in by career website Zippa, while Montana was ranked as the best state for physicians to practice in by personal finance website WalletHub.

In Zippa’s rankings, each state was ranked using dentists’ median salary, as well as each state’s cost of living and location quotient, a measurement created by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Read more about the methodology here.
