Five updates to know:
High Point (N.C.) University
High Point (N.C.) University’s Workman School of Dental Medicine is installing SIMtoCARE dental units as part of its goal to create the world’s largest simulation lab. The dental school has installed 10 units and plans to add 10 more by May.
The school has also partnered with Irvine, Calif.-based DSO Pacific Dental Services to implement the Epic electronic health record system at the university. The partnership marks the first between a DSO and dental school through Epic’s Community Connect program.
In January, the school appointed 12 members to serve on its inaugural board of advisors. Members will provide the school with insight, advice and leadership throughout their initial term, which will run through 2025.
The Workman School of Dental Medicine will begin enrolling students in fall 2024 and will be the state’s only private dental school.
The University of Pikeville (Ky.)
The University of Pikeville (Ky.) purchased a building in February from Appalachian Newspapers to house its upcoming dental school. Classes at the new dental school are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025.
Northeast Ohio Medical University (Rootstown)
Northeast Ohio Medical University received $2 million in funding in January from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for its upcoming dental school. The HHS award will go toward equipment and construction.
