Dentists ranked top 5 on list of best 401k plans

Dentists were ranked No. 5 out of 27 on a list of best 401k plans by job sectors by Judy Diamond Associates

Industries were scored on seven metrics: average account balance, employee contributions, employee longevity, participation rate, employer contributions, rate of return and plan score. Lower scores resulted in higher rankings. Dentists were ranked No. 8 in last year’s rankings. 

The 32,931 dentists included in the data have an average account balance of $107,568 and average employer contribution of $2,775 per participant. 

Dental practices with one to 10 dentists have an average account balance of $122,782, while dental companies with 5,000 or more participants have an average account balance of $40,141, according to the report.

Here are the five top-ranked industries and each profession’s overall score:

1. Certified public accountants: 26

2. Financial advisors: 32 

3. Lawyers: 33

4. Physicians: 43

5. Dentists: 43
