Number of accredited dentist programs has increased since 2018

There were 70 CODA-accredited predoctoral dentist programs in 2022, an increase of 6.1 percent since 2018, according to data from the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.

Predoctoral dentist programs include doctor of dental surgery (DDS) and doctor of medicine in dentistry (DMD) degrees. 

CODA is the Commission on Dental Accreditation, an ADA commission that grants accreditations to dental schools and dental education programs. 

Here is how many accredited programs there have been each year since 2018:

2018: 66

2019: 66

2020: 67

2021: 68

2022: 70
