10 states with the most, fewest dentists

California has the highest number of dentists of any state, while South Dakota has the lowest number, according to data from the American Dental Association. 

The ADA’s Health Policy Institute recently released data on the supply of dentists in the U.S. in 2024. 

Here are the states with the most and fewest number of dentists:

Most

California: 30,201

Texas: 16,692

New York: 14,159

Florida: 12,252

Illinois: 8,464

Fewest

Wyoming: 286

Vermont: 340

North Dakota: 385

Delaware: 482

South Dakota: 488
