Benchmarking

Dental assistants have crucial roles within a practice, including with sterilization duties, productivity and patient education.

The DALE Foundation surveyed 3,000 dentists, dental office managers, dental hygienists and dental assistants to determine how valuable dental assistants were to dentists. The survey was sponsored by Benco Dental and Henry Schein.

Of the respondents, 86 percent said dental assistants help prevent dentists' burnout. Additionally, 98 percent said dental assistants contribute to team synergy.

Around 91 percent of dentists and dental officers said dental assistants make it more likely that a patient will accept a dentist's treatment plan. And 97 percent said dental assistants contribute to patient retention.

When it comes to quality standards, 99 percent of dentists and dental assistants said disinfection duties are delegated to dental assistants.
