10 states with most, least dentists per capita in 2020

Washington, D.C., has the most dentists per capita, while Louisiana has the fewest, according to a WalletHub analysis.

Analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 44 different measures of cost, access and outcomes. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the best care at the most reasonable cost. Read more about the methodology here.

For dentists per capita, there was about a four-times difference between Washington, D.C., and Louisiana's metrics, according to WalletHub.

Most dentists per capita:
1. Washington, D.C.
2. Vermont
3. Wyoming
4. Utah
5. Hawaii

Fewest dentists per capita:
1. Louisiana
2. Tennessee
3. Kansas
4. Kentucky
5. Mississippi
